Meningococcal Conjugate and Tetanus Toxoid, Reduced Diphtheria Toxoid and Acellular Pertussis Vaccination Among HIV-infected Youth
Background: The meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4) and the tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid and acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap) were first recommended for adolescents in the US in 2005. The goal of our study was to determine MCV4 and Tdap vaccines coverage among perinatally and behaviorally HIV-infected adolescents in 2006 and to compare coverage estimates in our study population to similarly aged healthy youth in 2006. Methods: Longitudinal Epidemiologic Study to Gain Insight into HIV/AIDS in Children and Youth (LEGACY) is a retrospective cohort study of HIV-infected youth in 22 HIV specialty clinics acro...

The Burden of Pertussis Hospitalization in HIV-Exposed and HIV-Unexposed South African Infants
Conclusions. Bordetella pertussis contributed to a modest proportion of all-cause respiratory illness hospitalization among black-African children, with a trend for higher incidence among HIV-exposed than HIV-unexposed infants. Maternal vaccination of pregnant women should be considered to reduce the burden of pertussis hospitalization in this population.

Bordetella pertussis Infection in South African HIV-Infected and HIV-Uninfected Mother-Infant Dyads: A Longitudinal Cohort Study
Conclusions. Bordetella pertussis identification was common among young infants with respiratory illness, most of whom were too young to be fully protected through direct vaccination. Vaccination of pregnant women might be a valuable strategy in a setting such us ours to prevent B. pertussis–associated illness in women and their young infants.

Levels of vaccination coverage among HIV-exposed children in China: a retrospective study
ConclusionsChinese HIV-exposed children had low vaccination coverage, which is a serious health challenge that needs to be addressed thoroughly. Interventions should be developed with a focus on minority HIV-exposed children whose mothers do not have formal education. Particularly, more attention should be paid to EID to increase access to immunization.Graphical abstract

IJERPH, Vol. 18, Pages 4901: Sociodemographic, HIV-Related Characteristics, and Health Care Factors as Predictors of Self-Reported Vaccination Coverage in a Nationwide Sample of People Aging with HIV in Germany
hard Gusy Preventing infectious diseases through vaccination becomes more significant among the growing population of people aging with HIV. Coverage rates for vaccinations and factors associated with vaccination utilization among this population in Germany are unknown. We assessed the coverage of eight recommended vaccinations in a certain time frame in our convenience sample of 903 people living with HIV aged 50 years and older. We analysed coverage rates and used bivariate and multiple linear regression analyses to identify factors associated with number of reported vaccinations. Coverage rates in our sample ranged ...

Altered Lipid Profiles and Vaccine Induced-Humoral Responses in Children Living With HIV on Antiretroviral Therapy in Tanzania
In this study, lipid profiles and antibody responses to measles and pertussis toxin vaccines were compared between ART experienced HIV+ children (n=64) aged 5-10 years, and their age- and sex-matched HIV- controls (n=47). Prevalence of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and triglyceride-driven dyslipidemia was higher among treated HIV+ children than in controls (51.6% vs 27.7% respectively, p < 0.019). In a multivariate Poisson regression model adjusted for age, sex and BMI, the association between low HDL-c, hypertriglyceridemia and HIV remained significantly high (for HDL-c: ARR: 0.89, 95% CI: 0.82 – 0.96,...

Preventive health care among HIV-positive women in a Utah HIV/AIDS clinic: a retrospective cohort study
Conclusions: HIV/AIDS providers should focus on the needs of all women for preventive care services, including those with fewer socio-demographic risk factors (i.e., insured, stable housing etc.). In addition, failure to provide STI testing, cancer screening, or safe sex counseling to all patients represents a missed opportunity for provision of services that are important from both a clinical and public health perspective.

Delayed BCG vaccination results in minimal alterations in T cell immunogenicity of acellular pertussis and tetanus immunizations in HIV-exposed infants.
CONCLUSION: Delaying BCG vaccination until 8 weeks of age results in robust T-cellular responses to BP and TT in HIV-exposed infants. Clinical Trial Registry: NCT02062580. PMID: 26259542 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Spillover effect of HIV-specific foreign aid on immunization services in Nigeria
Conclusions HIV-specific aid had a negative spillover effect on immunization services in Nigeria over the study period. Donors may need to rethink their funding strategies in favour of more horizontal approaches.

Incidence of Severe and Nonsevere Pertussis Among HIV-Exposed and -Unexposed Zambian Infants Through 14 Weeks of Age: Results From the Southern Africa Mother Infant Pertussis Study (SAMIPS), a Longitudinal Birth Cohort Study
Conclusions. Pertussis is circulating freely among this population of Zambian infants but rarely presents with the classical symptoms of paroxysmal cough, whooping, apnea, and cyanosis. Maternal HIV appears to increase the risk, while lack of effective exposure to DTwP increased the risk.

Risk factors for pertussis among hospitalised children in a high HIV prevalence setting, South Africa
In South Africa, B. pertussis poses a greater risk to infants who are too young for the first vaccine dose, those who are not timeously vaccinated, and those who do not receive all three primary doses. HIV-infection or −exposure and pertussis infection were not associated. Funding This work was supported by a Sanofi Pasteur research grant.

Uptake of Recommended Vaccines in Pregnancy among People Living with HIV in the United States
Little is known about uptake of routinely-recommended vaccines - influenza and tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (TDaP) – among pregnant people living with HIV (PLHIV). The coronavirus pandemic presents an urgent need to understand factors driving vaccination uptake, particularly in vulnerable populations. We sought to estimate prevalence and identify factors associated with vaccination uptake among pregnant PLHIV.
